Description of the project:
The project “Go Cooperative & Green” will take place in Larache, Morocco, and seeks to contribute to raising awareness about sustainable development by promoting national and international cooperation among young people from different countries, as well as creating online campaigns and local activities for environmental protection. This project is inspired by the ''ECOoperation'' youth exchange that took place in Stockholm in 2019.
Larache is a harbour city but also a place for many ecological and archaeological sites surrounding the city. Larache belongs to the Loukous region which is the richest producer of agriculture in all of Morocco. However, the city of Larache lacks greener and inclusive public spaces, and one of its big forests is under the attack of demolishing for buildings construction.
Today, climatic change and sustainable development are one of the hottest topics worldwide. The consequences of the degradation of our planet generate already many social, economic, and ecological issues, which are interrelated and affect directly and indirectly most of the countries of the world and increase inequalities. The human rights approach based on equity and justice, rights, and responsibilities are seen by many as central to protecting the environment. Morocco started leading this discussion in North Africa as a result of several international cooperations EU-African, and we see a strong case to implement the project there.
COOPERATION is the action or process of working together to the same end. To cooperate is not as easy as it seems. Trust, compromise and communication are some of the main skills needed to cooperate effectively. To listen, understand and be empathic are other qualities that facilitate the cooperation for a productively work toward the common goal. Those skills are long-life useful that can be applied in many different fields. The values of sustainable development and human rights are needed, and it is urgent that they are accepted and respected by all. The key lies in education, information, and awareness tools, exactly what we want with this project.
During this Young Exchange we will focus on the topic of cooperation as the basement of sustainable development, through the following objectives:
- To raise awareness of participants about sustainable development and explore a human-rights based approach to sustainability;
- To share and compare the realities among participating countries in the field of sustainability;
- To encourage the active participation of people with special needs (physical disabilities);
- To develop cooperation skills and competencies on how to contribute to a more sustainable world;
- To develop their sense of initiative and empower them to be active and responsible citizens in their community in the field of sustainable development and cooperation;
- To develop their critical thinking about their way of life as a young adult;
- To equip them with skills that will enhance their professional development;
- To promote the common fundamental values of cooperation, respect for diversity, intercultural dialogue, and human rights.
